Ed,

3M makes several different kinds of reflective tapes that would work on a kayak and you might find a color to match your boat. I would be concerned about glassing over any reflective tape. Reflective sheetings (tape) are engineered optical systems designed to bend and reflect light by using layers of plastic and glass. Any coatings over the surface disturb or destroy these reflective properties.

I think that you will find the durability of the 3M products to quite good.
