kayak stackers ?

I need to get both a canoe and my Mill Creek 13 on top of my car. One solution is to use Thule's kayak stackers to put the kayak on its side. Is it ok to put the wood kayak on it's side ? anyone have experience using these stackers ? will it greatly affect wind resistance ? addison
