Any suggestions for painting lead ducks?

Hi All,

Does anybody have any suggestions for painting lead?

I have just cast a whole flock of "lead ducks" and I would like to paint them with something to keep the lead from marking my panels or getting on my hands.

My first thought was to use a galvanized metal primer and paint with an enamel. I was wondering if a coat of epoxy would work well or would it just chip off. Any other products that I should consider?

I cast the ducks from recycled car wheel balance weights using a 6" cast iron frying pan as a mold. The weights are not as soft as pure lead - which is good - and are about 8 pounds each. With a 1/4" cork base they should be perfect for "clamping" scarf joints, holding a batten in place or weighting down panels.

Thanks

Hank
