more keel for guillemot

I've had my guillemot out several times now and find (empty no gear) that it paddles very easy but at a low paddle speed and on flat water it is very hard to keep it tracking straight even more so if there is a slight cross wind if the wind is blowing head on it goes straight as an arrow. At a faster stroke it seems to go straighter . What I am wondering is would there be any benifit to adding a piece of wood to the keel and if so how much and where to position it . any ideas welcome . thanks John
