I used a combination of cedar and redwood on my Guillemot and had no trouble with the redwood. It was a little more brittle, a little less flexible than the cedar, but it's still very workable. Here in Cleveland, redwood is all I can find in clear, long lengths, and I've begun a Wee Lassie II that will be all redwood. I'm about 2/3 done stripping and haven't had a problem yet. Good luck!
