Ditto on the color matching. I did a canoe with recycled redwood and because I tend to like randomness, I mixed edge-grained and cross-grained strips as well as a variety of shades and colors. I was not at alll pleased with the results. Had the redwood not darkened so much when the epoxy was applied, I think it would have been OK. That said, I really do like how the redwood looked when finished. Just wish I hadn't succumbed to my anarchical nature. Good luck, Tom.

PS I used oak trim--the contrast between the dark red-brown and the yellow-brown is very nice.
