Glass Cloth\Tape Trick

I'm new to Kayak building, (just completing a new Coho), and remembered a trick from RD model building. This may have been passed along in the archives, but I have a method that works well to keep glass cloth or tape edjes from urnravveling when applying resin.

Just heat the edges with a propane torch to lightly melt the edges together. This works best for small reinforcement patches, and is best not over done. If the edge is overdone, it becomes brittle, ( too large glass balls), and leaves a rougher edge out of the resin that has to be later sanded. If the edge is passed through the torch flame just enough to fuse the threads, it makes the cloth much less likely to fray when resin is bruched on.
