I live just to the east of Ludington, Michigan and finding good lumber can be a problem. As Paul mentioned by going through a few stacks of lumber you shouldn’t have any problem finding red cedar. If you decide to just buy strips instead of cutting yourself, I have nothing but good things to say about the people at The Newfound Woodworks, (603) 744-6872. If you don’t mind half length strips they can be shipped UPS and rates are very reasonable ($25 ?).

My biggest problem is finding white cedar and long lengths of white ash. I’m going have some cut and dried locally next winter. I don’t know if it will be economical but I’m going to give it a try. If your interested in white cedar or ash next year drop me a line in the fall and possibly we can work together and save a little money.
