Interesting material! Well, since I travel mainly by train and bus with my folding kayak (yep, that's fairly easy in Central Europe), I need rather lightweight and non-bulky fabric. So, canvas might be a bit too much. But that reminds me of another thought: I thought of having a sea sock which I can use as a pack for my kayak when disassembled and traveling. So, your choice of fabric would be just excellent! Right, I might try it and see how it works. What fabric would you use now? Still canvas/cotton? Or cordura? Your idea of having a frame the keep the shape of the sock: How about just tying it to some crossribs?

I am rather going for a flexible version: a slightly longer sock. I should always be able to make it smaller, shouldn't I? Good point, though.
Cheers, Marian
