I am about to do the same for my Chesapeake 16LT. I am looking at using a seat much like that in my canoe (i.e. plastic cane) I can sit in that seat for 6 hours without pain. I have just cut out the stringers for the seat and will build it myself. I also just finished building a back rest. I used neoprene and sewed it between the same material I made a spray skirt out of (I forget the name of the material offhand). To the back of this, I sewed a strap that is mounted next to my hips in the kayak and secured with a bungie in the back.
There have been lots of posts on this board about 'formed' seats etc. Look through the archives. There is a very wide range of solutions
