If white pine's specific gravity is 0.36, you probably saved about 3.25 oz.
(0.5")^2 *3.1415 * 20" * (0.36) * (0.0361lb/cu in) * (16 oz/lb) = 3.26 oz
If you could carry your groove a ways into your blades, you could save a bit more.
Why not use just one of the ash strips for impact/abrasion resistance rather than two?
