The entire notion of what wood is "acceptable" has to do with weight. Birch is not on the list. You could build a stripper out of ebony if you want. Just build a set of wheels for it.

Cedar, Spruce, Pine, Balsa, Cyprus, Redwood, however even Fir get's too heavy.
