In Response To: Re-working Laughing Loon, NorthStar Plans?! (Brian Ruttle)

Last night ? I drew his whole number stations out as per his distance from the baseline ? numbers, but at the same time keeping forms true to the center line. This ? time I used french curves to aline the sheer line in a smooth arc from bow ? to stern. Now we have whole number stations that aline, or at least the ? hull! My dilemma is now the deck fairness, and creation of the stations ? between the whole number stations, that are 20? or so apart from each ? other. Rob's original deck lines climb and fall two times from cock pit to ? the nose of the boat.

? Questions (HELP!)

? 1/ Deck fairness cock pit to nose (bow). Do I just make a progresion of ? line nice and smooth equaly spaced, or do I stager the spacing close ? together at the cockpit and further apart as I move forward. Whats a good ? way to do this?

Don't quite know what yer gettin at but I would try to use the given forms but just carefully place them as below. I would assume that using the given spacing for your 1st sheet (20.5in?) for ea form.

? 2/ With 20? + spaces between stations, and building the boat from 1/4 ? thick strips do I need stations between?

Its probably a good idea, so go for it.

? 3/ If so any sugestions on a good way to draw in these forms? Or do I just ? draw line half way between and far them on the srong back? But I think ? that that is no differant then what Rob wants me to do with his plans, but ? instead of being able to see this problum with unfair sheer lines on ? papper, it will appear with my first sheer line strip stapled to our ? forms?

Speaking for myself, I would like much better control and foresight than fairing on the strong back. So this would mean:

Assuming that you did a good job overlaying forms and drawing the sheer lines. If not, use a 2h or harder pencil and get the shear locations exactly. Make sure the sheer is one continuous thin smooth line.

I don't know the numbering, but lets assume form 3 is near the bow and form4 is closer to the cockpit. Make a tracing of form 3.5 from your second sheet and overlay on your compilation dwg and move the 3.5trace up the ctrline until the sheer touches the sheer curve that you drew. Mark the curve exactly. Draw a perpendicular up from this pt. for an inch or so, draw a perp up from form4 for and inch or so. Draw a horiz line from form3 sheer across the two perps.

The horiz dist from form3 sheer to form4 sheer represents the spacing given(20.5 in??), the proportional dist to form3.5 gives the proportion of 20.5in to use.

I would bet the big bucks that the forms close to the cockpit could be set at the half pt., so spend the most time on the ends.

? Cheers: Brian ? Theresa.

Be careful and good luck

I guess last fittings dwg was not too far off, except the Pain in the Ache was for this one.
