Safety seats for this crowd are difficult. I've made someting similar to what is described for my son in the canoe, it won't fit in even a large kayak cockpit. I floated it in the pool with him on it, works great...but...if he needed to use it, the canoe would be upside down...With him sitting trapped in the seat?...well I think he's better off with a good life jacket sitting comfortably where he wants to.
by the way he has fallen overboard twice, and come up supprised but happy...get a pfd with a handle on the collar you will probably pull him out before he knows he's wet.
