Here is a picture of one of Joe Greenley's (Redfish Kayaks) seats. He carves them out of minicel foam. I have done a seat bottom like this and I find it very comfortable.

I carved mine with a sander. I sat in it every so often to get the shape right. It was very easy to make. Cost of the 3" thick minicel for mine was $17 with scrap left over for braces and things.
