what a great idea !

the thread about printing on glass cloth !

I would like to mention few issues related to the ink :

1. there are 2 types of inks: a. sublimation dyed ink b. pigmented ink. if you are using color laser copier, the toner is of "sublimation dyed" type. somebody mentioned it sticks to the glass cloth, so I guess he knows what he is talking about. the disadvantage of "sub' dye" is it's lack of resistance to uv light, so you better varnish it before you take it out.

2. ink jet printers can run sub dye ink OR pigmented ink. I'm not sure whether the pigmented ink sticks to glass, & whether epoxy will adhese to the ink layer. however, pigmented inks have better color saturation & uv resistance. sometimes they have the tendency to fall of the substrate, so the color gets weaker, but when burried under epoxy it shouldn't be a problem.

3. somebody mentioned heat transfers, like T-shirts. this too can be done with sub dye or pigmented ink, but if the image is larger than an iron it will be almost impossible to get an even image because the color will shift with the temp/time/pressure differences across the image.

4. printing direct on veneer. great idea. I'm not sure how will the different inks behave. let us know.

5. color. keep in mind that you are printing on a white substrate, the image is lovely, but when you wet it with epoxy the color of the substrate suddenly changes to transparet & you might just get "dirty wood" - let us know.
