Hopefully, you'll be able to squeeze deck and hull together with the Nick's suggestions. I can only help with a suggestion for the next boat.

I avoided the mismatch situation by using a series of spacer strips that I placed in the deck and hull after I had glassed the interior. I took sheer-to-sheer measurements from 4 stations over the length of the boat, and cut strips to that width. I covered the ends in packing tape to keep them from sticking, cut notches in the overhanging cloth, inserted the stick, and then used a strip of packing tape on the outside to clamp the stick in place. I had no problem aligning deck and hull later.
