I was using a foam roller. The one West system makes and recommends. I was not a happy camper with it. A bristle roller may well work better, but I just haven't found the need for it...yet. A bit of time working fore and aft with a squeegee did just fine for me. But on that point, I had to use good squeegees. I did have some cheap ones, and they didn't do well, leaving marks and wearing down quickly. I also used as wide a squeegee as I comfortably could.
