for what its worth (fwiw) built the redbird and used a 6 inch square box beam ala rob macks (laughing loon ) and 8 foot piece, a 5 foot piece, and a 3 foot piece. there were two 4 foot pieces sized to fig into the larger pieces (like a telescope) so that i could attach the pieces and get the proper length for the chosen project. when assembled , i placed a couple sheet rock screws to maintain the proper length and stability. where the smaller nestin lengths are exposed, there is a dip in the surface -- i covered it with a scrap of plywood to ensure a level surface. it breaks down into storable, reusable pieces. fwiw john tmc
