Adhesive for Boat Attachments:

I've been using a type of Polyurethane glue for attaching things both inside and outside my boats. It's Elmer's ProBond and is labelled as waterproof and compatible with almost any material. There are several types of this glue by this manufacturer, so make sure it's the most expensive kind, that is marked "waterproof", rather than just "water-resistant". The 8 oz. squeeze-bottle I bought, cost $6.29.

It is slow-drying and must be kept moderately warm to cure to the best quality. Don't apply extra heat, above room temperature, or it will expand and ooze out of the glueline too rapidly. This expansion helps it to fill the pores and make a better bond. Leave it alone for 24 hours, before putting a heavy load on it. Use gloves and don't get it on your skin, as it's hard to clean off. I've used it to attach metal, wood and fiberglass all together and the joints are very solid. You need some way to clamp or screw the pieces together for best results. Perhaps some internal type of temporary cross-brace would work, to wedge the footpeg bases tight against the hull, while it was curing.
