In Response To: Thwart designs? (Travis)

I eyeballed the one for my Wee Lassie II from Susan Van Leuven's book. Mine turned out to have more of an arc and a narrower neck. It looks okay, but I think it's a little out of balance. I started with a batten (1/8" x 3/16" scrap strip) and bent it to give the curves I wanted, and traced the full curves to a piece of graph paper. Then I drew the recurve at the end to something that resembled a thwart-end. Once I got something I liked, I cut the graph paper at the thwart centerline and used the half-template to transfer to the stock.

Here's one photo. There more construction pictures on my website.

Have fun!
