I used the pattern in the link Craig posted - it worked really well. After cutting the stock to shape, I rounded the edges with a spokeshave and sculpted out a hollow depression where your shoulders carry the load with the heel of a belt sander. Against the grain it really worked well (needless to say, it took some serious hand sanding to get out all the scratches from the coarse belt sanding work.
