In Response To: Is R for Rotary or Random? (Nolan)
Hi Nolan;
It is a Random orbital sander, and whats slick is that the disk may or may not rotate as well. It makes small orbits like the palm sanders, but depending on conditions, it may also rotate clockwide, counter-clockwise, or not at all. That really adds to the randomization of swirls, to the point I never see any even with 60 grit disks. The only time I ever created swirl marks is when I installed a new hook & loop disk and did not start it on the surface - For a second or two the disk was loose and cut visible swirls. The instructions always caution to start a new disk pressing on the surface at turn-on to secure the H&L.
Best Regards, Spidey
