Dean -- On my Merganser I used mahogany and ash strips (1/4 x 3/4 x 2), glued to the deck with Elmer's Wood Glue. After the glue dried, I cleaned up the joint with the deck, and put 2 layers of 'glass on each the inside and outside on the strips. The coaming lip is also mahogany (3) and ash (2), 1/8 x 1/2 strips. I just epoxied the coaming strips, without any fiberglass. I did mine following the directions in Nick's book, but without the 'glass on the outside of the lip. (see related thread about 2-3 weeks ago). Hope this helps, Greg
