Here in Central Mississippi, the gators will do their best to get out of your way unless it is a big female near a nest. She will do alot of cutting up to warn you away! The only curious behavior is the "submarine" approach. A friend paddles a small(9') pirouge that must, from underwater, look like a sexy gator! They will surface beside him, matching his speed, dive, and reappear in various locations very near (a few feet) before retreating to the hideout! Only once in a very narrow creek did one get aggressive by slapping the side of the boat with it's tail (he avoids that creek...).
