Richard,
Yes, I used the paint to wet out the cloth, after puting an initial coat of paint on the bare wood (and over the joints). If I remember right, it was a bit "stickier" than most epoxy resins I have used. Long pot life though, 6 or 7 hours I think.... I used it to save; time, money and effort by eliminating a finish coat. I'm not sure what the brand was, and I was on the island of Guam when I bought it (from a building supply store) so I can't suggest calling anyone for a lead. Sorry. Cost on Guam was about $70/gal. Tough to guess what it would be here. While most things are cheaper here, the concrete epoxy I mentioned was cheaper on Guam!
After I brushed an initial coat on, I layed the glass and wetted it out. After I got most of the bumps and bubbles taken care of I sprayed another coat on with an air-gun. It was my first effort and it wasn't till I got to the last quarter that I had the gun set up right, but that last bit looked real good :) I thought the finish was quite nice, but then, this was for a work-boat and I'm not that picky. I think if one were to take some time you might get a nice, servicable look. The stuff was tough as could be, never used any paint that was anywhere near as durable, though it wasn't the kind of mirror finish you might get with a good 2 part poly. Seemed that it was more flexible than some straight resins. I doubt that it would be much good for stiffening things up.
It saved me money cause I didn't bother to fill the weave. If you want a slick surface, probably won't save you money.
Hope that helps
Karl
: Karl,
: Can you tell me more about using the 2 part epoxy paint (intended for food
: service surfaces). did you use it to wet out cloth? Where it is available
: from, cost, quality of the finish etc or any other comments about it would
: be much appreciated.
: Thanks, Richard
