This one shows the deck a bit better. The half-strip down the center is walnut, with chevrons (trapezoids) of walnut on either side, then another pair of cherry chevrons outside of that. The next half-strips are cherry, and the final outer half-strips are walnut. The half-strip at the shear is walnut, as are the outer stems. The rest of the boat is northern white cedar, and varies in color quite a bit -- reddish/tannish/yellowish variations. On the bright side, scratches will be much less visible!

I laid out the pseudo-Navajo patterns so that when I cut the hatches, one of the patterns was at the center. I am working on hexagonal knobs of mahogany. I really didn't want to use so many different kinds of wood because it makes the boat look a bit too busy, but this particular piece of mahogany had some very interesting grain.
