Yes, I think we're trying to say the same thing, but I wasn't as clear as I could have been. When I first read about this I got confused about the angle thing, initially thinking it was the angle of the paddle to the water - i.e. 90 degrees is standing on end, 0 degrees is floating on the surface of the water.
I was trying to clarify that it's really the angle of the paddle about it's longitudinal axis that's being talked about. I had hoped to spare others the confusion... hope I haven't just muddied the waters more...
