Chuck (and everyone else) There's some good paddling out here in Insane Diego but ya just gotta get to the launch points EARLY. The reason is that approximately 2.4 TRILLION cars, trucks and SUVS are also looking for the 3 available parking spots...it gets ugly sometimes... A good paddle for us is to launch at La Jolla, paddle out a couple miles west, turn north and paddle a few miles, then east to the shore and follow it back to the launch point. Another is a paddle from Imperial Beach out to the Grande Coronado (the big un' of the Coronado Islands)...more about that if anyone's curious. Now, our two cents worth about launch ceremonies: our last yak launching was an annointing using a teensy weensy quick little dollop of Tusker Ale onto the bow, then a swiggin' down the rest, then launching for the maiden voyage, in that case, straight out west about 4 miles, rafting together for lunch, and straight back. just a thought...
