Nick,
Norris and Spiers (among others) manufactured very sought-after planes but these old tools are often quite expensive (easily $500.00+). I don't care for modern Record or Stanley but pre-WWII Record and Stanley are excellent. Check the antique shops and tool-collectors. An excellent resource is the "Electronic Neanderthal" site listed below.
