Yak Packin' or Kayak Cratin' :-)

Well, the boats aren't even finished yet (the Osprey is still "almost done" and the Coho is still in the box), but Louise and I are thinking about traveling with them. While there are millions of trips within reasonable (or even unreasonable) roof-rack-distance of SoCal, we can't help imagine ranging farther afield with our beautiful boats... We're going to Greece (without the boats, of course) in June, and we're skipping the islands this time. _Next_time_, however, we think that it would be a great place to paddle...

On to my question, how do you ship one of these 16-18ft, ~40lb boats? Can you pack 'em in a crate (2x4 and 1/2 or 3/4in plywood) and send 'em air freight? Or do you have to plan way ahead and have them shipped via ground/ocean? Have any of you guys ever shipped one? How much did it cost?

Thanks for any info!

Later,

Tim.
