I think you are asking about Spectra fiber, which is manufactured by Allied Signal. The chemical composition is simply polyethylene - the same stuff as soda bottles. The great strength of Spectra arises from processing, which aligns the molecular chains. One significant problem with Spectra is difficulty in establishing a good bond with the matrix (presumably epoxy). In tension, the stuff is great - not so good in compression though. Like Kevlar, it contributes to impact resistance. Spectra is not on my list of fibers that I would like to work with in polymer matrix composites. But it makes great rope and webbing.
