I found that working on the inside, installing footpegs, was easy when I flipped the boat upside-down on the sawhorses and squeezed my torso in from underneath. I think it would be hard to get stuck this way, given that gravity is on your side, and your legs are still on the ground for a little pushing and kicking if necessary.
