Hi Bruce....
Jeff and I used square edged strips that we made ourselves for the Puddle Duck...NEVER AGAIN!!!...We have used bead and cove strips on the Rob Roy and the labor seving is in the range of 80% due to the uniformity of the hull shape resulting from the support that the bead and cove strips give each other...that is to say that the hull shape is much more uniform with the same effort using bead and cove...sure, you could get the same result with square edged strips, but at a greater level of effort.
The boat paddles well and I would build another without hesitation.
Oh, by the way we used Raka non-blushing epoxy this time and we are VERY pleased with this product. Very workable with excellant results.
I recommend building this boat, but read Nick Shade's book in addition to Gil Gilpatrick's book and where the two differ go with Nick. Nick's book is one, if not, the best book on the subject. Both comprehensive and enjoyable to read.
Best of Luck and Warm Regards, Charley
