: Hi All;

: Well, I got the dreaded fishey on my 3rd fill coat on the deck. This is my
: 6th epoxy fill coat on the hull and now the deck, and I never had a trace
: of it before. I believe it was the high humidity, and maybe a screwup on
: my part, by only waiting an hour after washing and drying the deck in high
: humidity conditions. It wasn't amine blush, in that the deck was fully
: sanded and then scrubbed with soap and water using a scotch-brite pad. Has
: anyone heard of, or encountered epoxy fisheye with high humidity? Any
: other ideas, for that matter?

: I relate this mini-disaster because of all the work required to remove it:
: Essentially the entire coat has to be sanded off to get back to a level,
: ready for recoat surface. I hope this post saves someone from the extra
: work. My deck is back after 3+ hours sanding, and if there is an upside,
: it has never been quite this smooth . . . ;-)

: Best Regards, Spidey

Hey Spidey

Not sure if this is related, but, laquer is a medium I am famiar with and used extensively on cabinets for years. Laquer dries quickly, but, if recoated within a couple of hours or so, it disolves the previous layer and blends in. If too many coats are done this way and you develope a thick soft layer, it would cause surface blemishes and sometimes harden on the outside and stay soft underneath for a long time. As it dried, it would shrink the outer layer down and cause a mess. Is it possible that this may have happened with the opoxy? I've had to remove a couple of coats of laquer a time or two, just because I got in a hurry to finish. Hope it comes out O.K. cause that new boat is too pretty to have less than a perfect finish on. best of luck.
