Pete, try cutting out some 0-clearance plates for your blades. Then you can cut anything you want, till you start slicing the fence with the blade. I made 0-clearance plates for the combo blades and also for my dado setup. Eliminates the worry of losing a piece down the slot. Eliminates material chatter on little stuff also. You can also make a very simple " Straightener " for all those bowed boards.
