All mixed up

I transport my splastic boat with the coaming down mainly to prevent oil-canning of the hull (it is a rounded hull boat and I'd rather deform the deck). Also, the bow lines tie better that way because the tip points down. On the other hand, I transport my North Bay with the coaming up. I just use rack pads - no cradles - and the boat rests on one chine so it rides a little cockeyed. Yes, it does look odd and I've gotten some comments when I carry both boats at the same time, but who cares? I'd rather just make sure they travel securely. Sometimes (just to keep the pundits guessing) I transport one of the boats with the stern forwards! Point: It doesn't really matter if you are careful not to hurt the boat and it gets to the put-in in one piece. Proviso: If you can't postion the boat so the bulkheads are over the bars, then it might be best to use cradles.
