Hi Hank,

Sorry, I don't have any experience with BEHR 45, but I did notice your comment about urethane ... I happen to have some Minwax Helmsman Spar that has UV inhibitors for a different project, and wondered about using that as a "varnish" since a guy at the boat supply store claimed that the urethanes were more durable than varnishes (I think he was talking about 2-part urethanes).

So, given that I know you know your stuff and have a lot of experience with kayak building, what is the problem with urethanes? It seems to be working OK on some exterior woodwork and is about 1/2 the price of Z-spar Flagship.
