Who's counting? Gary B, Yes a picture would explain alot, I don't know a jpeg from a footpeg. The foredeck cleats (two) on my Mariner measure 4~ inches and are plastic (not junk). They are parallel to each other, the CL of their base's are 4-1/2~ inches apart, and tilt outward (away from each other) maybe 55-60 deg.(each) and still run true with CL of the craft. Their aftmost point clears the coaming lip by about 2inches. They are set into the knee/thigh brace contour formed in the hull at manufacture. This leaves their highest point proud of the foredeck 3/16~ inches yet very accessible. You should of course consider mounting these where you won't bark youre knuckles while paddling, or snag a garment if you happen to find yourself writhing around on deck somehow. I have found Matt and Cam at Mariner Kayaks to be very helpful and thorough. Perhaps they would be a good source for the cleats and description of the aftdeck cleat, which I did not have installed on my Mariner because of my large rear hatch and paddle float rescue accomidations. I mounted a jam cleat (aluminum, anodized black) to secure the mainsheet on a small sail boat and it would release with a quik yank in the correct direction If I can be of any further help/confusion let me know.
