Hi Doug, The market for commercial "recreational sea kayaks" skews the average to the shorter range. In other words more kayaks will be sold that are 14'x26" than kayaks that are 18'x21". People that design wood sea kayaks will tend to design towards a slightly skilled enthusiast than anyone willing to pay less than $1000 for a "sea kayak" like the Perception Carolina.

Next to the paddlers intended use the size and weight of the paddler is a very critical part of choosing which kayak to get.
