In my humble opinion .. the degree to which one worries about perfection is entirely based on personality. You will strive for exactly the amount of accuracy that you always do, no more or less, because you are bound to do so.

Cut it, sand it and paddle it was a necessity for Inuit people because they had to get out and get somethin' ta eat. Taking pleasure from the process was not an option with a short season. You and I have that option. If the process is not that important, then let 'er rip (literally) and go paddle, thats fun too.

For myself, I pained over every detail of my first canoe, so much so that it hurt ..... and I f'd up lotsa bits, but I finished it anyways. The important thing is that now I know where I dont need to be so accurate (relative to my own perfection scale) and where I should take even more care. Boat number two has taken MUCH less time, and will be even better than the first. But I had to go all the way on the first to find that stuff out.

I figure that I'll never regret time invested, but I'll sure be pissed at myself for the lazy shortcuts I took.

end of rant

have a great time ...
