: Thanks for the feedback, Rehd (et al).

: Actually its a new saw available at Sears in Canada. One of the things that
: makes me a little leery is that the price is SO reasonable, for a new saw.
: I'll have to assemble it myself, so I can't check the things you suggest
: until after I've bought it, but with the warranty on a new saw, I'm not
: too worried about that.

: This model has no port for attaching a shopvac, which I assume is common to
: most older saws. You have any suggestions for rigging an improv dust
: collector? I am assuming that even with a thin-kerf blade, cutting strips
: will produce an awful lot of sawdust. By the way, how thin is a thin-kerf
: blade?

: Thanks again.

Ahhh ! It's new. Well then, is it a free standing or table model? Either will work just fine for what we're doing, and as long as you have an outfeed table or rollers, you should have no problem. Don't worry about the wobble or play in the arbor. If it has any, you just take it back. As was mentioned up top, the fences leave a lot to be desired, as to accuracy and feedom of movement. You can go with that fence, as it WILL work, but, you can find some after market fences that will bolt right on. Unless you have some trouble with the fence, leave it alone. Don't trust the tape on the saw. They are notorious for being inaccurate. For cutting these strips, I'd use the thin kerf blades as well.

As for the shop vac or whatever you intend on using, I'd just put a box under the saw and let the sawdust fall into that. The Table saw is one that normally throws the sawdust down under the tool. I put thin plywood around the bottom just to make it fall into the box. You basically need the vac where you have sawdust staying on top of the tool and in the way of your work and vision.
