After the third coat of epoxy dried on my Guillemot 17, I found that my smooth finish had turned to a moon scape overnight. The worst of the cratering is on the flater surface of the hull. I guess one would call it orange peel, but the craters and hills are around 1/4 inch, causing a rippley effect. I am using Raka 127 resin with 606 slow hardner. The temperature in my boat shop (garage) stays around 78 to 80 degrees, night and day. I have been applying the epoxy in the mornings around 10:00am. The hull was wiped with a dry rag, no solvents. I use a roller to apply the epoxy and go back over with a dry foam brush.I know I will have to sand the coating down smooth to get rid of the orange peel. What I need to know is how to prevent it from happening again.
