Did I use enough?

I purchased a quart of Captains varnish and applied 3 coats to the hull and 5 coats to the deck of my Osprey Double. I still have about a quarter of the can left. Did I put the varnish on too thin? I only thinned the final coat and I didn't thin it very much. I am concerned about having enough UV protection.
