Hi Dwight;

Thanks for the response. I will probably trim mine down a bit and go with the Yakimas on this 'yak after hearing the responses.

On the subject of weight - I was cautious when fairing the wood, and felt I had thinned it as much as I dare. I was shocked when I cut out the hatches in what I thought were aggressively cut surfaces, and found them to be essentially full thickness! I'm at 38# less seat, braces, and finish. My 0.230" strips are still essentially just that. The GB I built called for 3/16" strips and a 35# fitted out weight. I guess I could have been more aggressive at sanding, starting with the thicker strips . . .
