: Rehd,

: A S.G. can be built quick and dirty if you plan the times you'll be laying on
: the epoxy- first thing in the morning on a Saturday and the whole weekend
: is lost. The target is to get a lot of things done by 9:00 pm, lay on any
: epoxy and go to bed. I built my 17 Guillemot in a little over 3 weeks by
: spending a few hours a night and 4-6 on the weekends. I think a different
: design might go together quicker, those tortured ends are he__ to get
: formed!

Yes, I had planned on doing all my fiberglass work at night. I have been out watching David Barrett glass a couple of his canoes and give me tips on everything he could think of. One major point was to glass in the evening, just after the temp starts on the down-swing, and avoid outgassing of the air in the wood. The air would, at that time, be contracting and would draw the epoxy into the wood, rather than the air coming out in your resin, under the cloth. I have been doing my fillets in the evenings now and getting a lot more working time as well. It's down to around 90* after 7 pm. Lots to do in the mornings and afternoons in order to get ready to glass in the evenings. Thanks for the tips, and I am getting my brothers boat wrapped up tomorrow and starting on the cutout of the S&G canoe and all the aside work before the Great Auk starts taking shape.
