Here is a little finishing touch trick a friend taught me about 20 years ago. If you have a grinder, put a 6" cotton buffing wheel on one side. Get a stick of red rough polishing compound and coat the edge of the cotton wheel with it. Hold your chisel or plane blade pointing down and away NOT up and into the wheel like you would to sharpen or the cotton wheel could catch it and throw it right back at you. I do this on both sides of the blade. It takes any of those last little stubborn burrs off and puts a slight micro bevel on it. Try it sometime, I think you might be amazed. Try the hair cut before and after.
The above is for those special times.:) I use my chisels and planes so much that most of the time I just take them to grinder and concave the bevel, then only have to deal with the last 32nd or so on a stone to get an edge again.
It just takes practice. Good luck, John
