Marty,
I'm probably within 20 km of you, and I've nearly finished building and stitch and glue sea kayak. I have spent $1050 to get the kayak to a stage where it is paddleable. A further $300 or so has gone into the deckfittings, pump, sail and those sorts of things.
I have built a Shearwater Baidarka in AS2272 marine Hoop Pine plywood, epoxy from Boatcraft Pacific in Queensland, and various other materials from FMS.
If you want to see two Shearwater Baidarkas, several Cohos and at least one skin boat, as well as talk kayak building, then we are having a launching party at Rose Bay, 10 am on Sunday.
Part one of the article on building the Baidarka is at the URL below. Part two will come after the next film is developed and printed.
