I attended the Wooden boat festival and spotted a few kayaks this year.
Pygmy Kayaks was as usual present in full force as this is their front yard. They are always a popular stop. CLC also had a large display with a full line of kayaks out for the viewing. Right beside CLC (and maybe part of) was a MacGregor sailing canoe LOA 13’6”. I didn’t catch the name of the gentleman sitting by the canoe (sorry), but according to him, the canoe was an Iain Outred design and was built from scrap wood for $50 sans sails. Not bad. He said it was also a good sailor.
Another excellent display was by Spirit Line Kayaks who have workshops where you make your own Baidarka. Their boats are impressive. During the show they built 2 kayaks on sight. Wish I could bend strips as effortlessly as they do. I just might sign up for one of their workshops.
Not much for strip boats. Redfish Kayaks pickup was parked along the street with 2 kayaks on top but no booth was set up. There were 2 other strip kayaks hanging out down on the water that looked like Laughing Loon designs. The one had a slightly recessed deck behind the cockpit for a dog to sit on.
Hope to see more small craft and kayaks next year. Maybe one or 2 of them will be mine.
