Interesting..... Back before there many production short sailboards around, we made our own using surfboard style construction. To achieve the lightest weight which was very important for jumping and steering in surf, we used large blocks (9' x 2' x 1') of expanded polystyrene, carved to shape and glassed. By using kevlar, carbon, S glass and epoxy we could get down in the 10-13 lb. range and have them still hold up to 20' jumps off waves. We made some that were lighter, and though we never snapped one in half, ominus cracks were appearing...
